Norway – Oslo
In 1858, 15 years old, Edvard Hagerup Grieg (1843–1907) travelled from Bergen to Leipzig to become a musician at the Leipzig Conservatory. He concentrated on the piano and mingled in the vibrant music scene of the city where he also met Clara Schumann. Grieg had a restless nature, he was on the road most of his adult life and even though his health was in bad shape, he made long and tiring concert tours throughout Europe, most of the time engaged in giving concerts of his own music as conductor, solo pianist and accompanist.
As Grieg spread his music through Europe and gained experience and impulses in return, MB classics – Opus aspires to enable access to opera and classical music in the area between Oslo and Trondheim with the long-term goal to establish a permanent, professional chamber orchestra in this area. Opus encourages opening up new ways of thinking about music by exploring new sorts of venues and new levels of cooperation.
